Clinical and Statistical Study of Malignant Tumors of the Maxillary Sinus

Abstract
Malignant tumors of the maxillary sinus are relatively rare, composing less than 0.2 per cent of all human cancers. In spite of modern advances in surgery and radiation therapy, the management of malignant disease of the maxillary antrum continues to be discouraging.
Unfortunately, the maxillary antrum is a relatively ("silent") area, giving symptoms only late in the course of the disease, and it is likely that ¢¥patients¢¥ will continue to present with, lesions in a relatively advanced state, even to the extent of being virtually untreatable when first seen.
The authors analyzed 61 cases of histopathologically proved malignant tumors of the maxillary sinus observed from Aug. 1974 through Jul. 1976.
This is the first report of the clinical aspects of malignant tumors of the maxillary sinus.
